Palace Courtyard

Striding confidently, Verani stepped through the gate into the courtyard. The guards figured out already that he's a very important man to the council, one member in particular. "Master, I've arrived. I await the next assignment." Verani took out a feather, it shimmered red in the light. The councilman took it. "Good, my friend. Get some rest, I'll have an assignment by tomorrow for you. And here's your share of the earnings." he gave Verani a pouch of gold.

Darius sighed slightly, rubbing his temples. Sometimes the High Council really grated on his nerves. He let the others yell amongst themselves about the best solution to the army that was marching on the city then stood. "Thats enough. We are here to solve the problem, not bicker. So here is what I propose. The mages guild uses most of their resources for wards and barriers to fend off the hord as long as they can. The rest go to the medical for there will be casualties." He pointed to another member of the council "Send your Verani and get me Bishi. I need his Guild to rally all they can and stand at the gates. This is not going to be pretty. I'll be at the mages guild preparing them." With that, he strode out of the council. He wasn't going to give them a choice in the matter. Thats what was going to happen. They all knew that it'd be fool to try and argue it with him.

Verani found a hidden entrance ages ago into the council chambers. He listened in every time there was a council session. After the session, he left his spot, and as no one was coming he made his way following the high council member. "Sir, do you really think it is the best idea to have the mages just ward and heal? Most of the mages guild are destructive magic users, not healers. And besides, Korash is essentially immune to swords and arrows." Verani knew he was out of order with questioning the council, but it needed to be done. It was the logical choice.

Darius sighed "Verani, you know is illegal to spy on the council's meetings. If you were ever to be caught, I won't be able to protect you. And yes, what I chose is a good course. We simply don't have the manpower right now for an offensive fight. Besides, I doubt Korash will show up with this one. And if he does, I'll be there to face him. Now go get me Bishi."

"I protect myself. And whoever ordered my execution would be dealt with. You know how I operate. And if Korash does show up, we're in for a nightmare." Verani left, sweeping out. He knew very well that not one man can defeat Korash. This council member will find out for himself. He walked in the shadows, able to avoid every one.

Darius sighed again Verani's luck was going to fail one of these days. And it would end badly for a few people. He walked out of the palace and down to the guild.

Verani followed the shadows to the guild after thinking for several minutes on what they could do. He knew they would need an assassins help. Korash could topple civilizations, but if his right hand man was cut off - losing an arm effectively - they would stand a slight chance, because he'd need to be on the front lines commanding the entire army. A deadly place to be, if your the target of several hundred mages.
